WIP Wednesday - Week 11

I can't believe it's here again!!  I love Wednesday's and Friday's in blogland.  Seeing everyones projects keeps me inspired.

I have one small WIP I'm going to share with you.  I have started a Multnomah Shawl, with some school grey dk yarn that I had in my stash and 5mm needles.

I only started this morning so not much progress but I am hoping to have it finished for Friday's FO.  I have already finished three smaller projects this week and destashed 350g of novelty yarn.

Here is my declaration "I promised that I will think three times before buying more novelty yarn".  I always remember when I start knitting with the stuff how awful it is and why there is always loads on the shelf at the LYS!!!!!

Please got to Tami Amis's amazing site and see other WIP Wednesday's

Here is my progress shot of my Multnomah Shawl

  2. I know what you mean about novelty yarn - I have banned myself from buying it because I really, really do not enjoy knitting with it!

  4. Thinking three times is a good idea. I have to do the same with handpainted sock yarn. It's so pretty in skeins but never quite as pretty knit up as socks. And often the yarn entirely overwhelms any pattern so I end up knitting a boring vanilla sock pattern.

Multnomah is a lovely pattern - can't wait to see yours!

    1. I have to admit that is why I have always been put off about buying sock yarn. But after getting some I really can't wait and if it's boring then it will get turned into a shawl!!

  5. By Friday?? Wow--that might be some sort of record! It's looking lovely so far. I hear you on the novelty yarn, but it's occasionally useful. Maybe if you get an urge to knit a monster? ;)

    1. I am only slow on knitting items that I don't really want to be knitting, ie vanilla scarves. Don't ask me for one, you will never get it!

  8. I also seriously have no idea why LYS carry so much novelty yarn! I can never envision a project that will make it look good or justify the hefty price tag (I'll be heading towards the luxury yarns instead, thank you). Heartrendingly, even Webs now has a dedicated section for those nasty yarns (obviously I agree with you on the subject). On a more positive note, the shawl is looking wonderful!

  12. I love your pledge and I think that when one has a large stash that it should apply to all yarn. Not just the novelty. Your beginning on the shawl is looking great!

    1. I agree and have managed not to buy novelty yarn for awhile, but I was asked by a mum whose little girls love different things for scarves. Once I had made those I didn't return the rest of the awful stuff but kept it. Thankfully now it's all gone

    1. When I first started crafting again, my entire stash was made up of novelty yarn. And it made me miserable everytime I looked at it. I gave it all away to an old age home, and vowed never to purchase any again.

My resolve weakened with these lot. But I am back on track now
