WIP Wednesday - Week 15

I have yarn in my stash that I bought for a specific project.  For some reason that project didn't happen.  Now that I am only using stash to make any project I am faced with a dilemma some of my stash doesn't inspire me.  Take this fiesta yarn, I have finished the Oaklet Shawl and am very disappointed with it.  But that's a story for FO Friday.

I found myself with just under 200g left of this yarn and I was determined to get it out of my stash.  I cast on about five projects with it and wasn't happy with any of them.  The my friend asked me to teach her how to do the neat ripple blanket by Lucy at Attic24 so I thought I had better brush up on my ripple skills cause it's been awhile since I have done it.  So that is what this yarn has now become.  A ripple scarf.  I am not happy with it, but that's the yarn's fault. I know it's because of the colours more than anything else, they are not my colours.

I have done 8 rows and will see how much yarn I have left after 10 rows to see if I carry on or stop.

So go to Tami's Amis blog to see what other people are doing before the Ravellenic Games start in 2 DAYS TIME.

  1. I'm not a huge heavily variegated yarn in crochet, it really lends itself better to knitting.

I have recently been enamoured with ripples, but I found lucy's weren't quite ripply enough for me :D

  2. I prefer buying yarn for a project than choosing project for the yarn too! It's quite difficult to match project to a yarn, but I think you're doing a good job - very colourful. If you're not happy with the yarn and are desperate to get rid of it maybe just knit some toys for cats/dogs and take it to the local shelter? Or knit a small blanket for them too.

  3. It is always annoying when you have some yarn and nothing seems to work with it. Primary colour together are always a challenge, but I love that you are not giving up.
I think this yarn would work well for socks? But I love the idea of the ripple blanket too

  4. Ohh, it sucks that you're not happy with the yarn, especially when you've got a bit to get rid of. Hope you find the right project if you don't stick with the ripple!

  5. I'd say just let it go! Tuck it away in a deep dark corner and forget about it. Who knows some day - two years from now - you might re-discover it and love it!!

  6. I agree with Robin, just let it go. Maybe you can make a nice package of yarn you can't use and make somebody else happy with it?

  7. I love the ripples and the multicoloured yarn! I am so into multicoloured yarn at the moment after forcing myself to give it a go!

  8. I agree with some of the comments above - just hide it away for awhile and maybe you will be inspired by it in the future. It is so hard to knit/crochet with yarn that you don't like.

  9. It looks so pretty. I hope you have enough yarn to finish it

  10. Oh, so sorry to hear about this disappointment. But honestly, if you really don't like it and cannot imagine yourself using it or being able to gift it, perhaps you should just frog it. That yarn looks like it would be happy as a baby sweater for instance (based on color anyway). Every knitter usually has at least one thing that they aren't completely happy with, I sympathsize with you.

  11. There's an old quilting saying ... something along the lines of "if you don't like a fabric it just means you didn't cut it small enough". Maybe you'd like it better if it was just a couple of stripes in a ripple made mostly of another colour, like a navy blue or something?

If that doesn't work - give it away or throw it out. Lots of schools like yarn like that for craft projects.

  13. So annoying when you have yarn you don't like. I have few balls that I know I'll never use and don't really know why I bought them. I have to say I love the colours in the scarf. Thanks for visiting my blog and I'm pleased I inspired you to produce a birthday gift. Have a lovely week. Ali x

  14. It is definitely challenging when you're working from stash all the time. Sometimes a swap can help :).

  15. I tend to buy yarn for projects too. It does leave me with a problem occasionally when it doesn't work out

  16. I usually can find something attractive about all yarn colors but I agree with you that this yarn does not work well in a ripple pattern...move on!
