WIP Wdenesday - Week 7

I went (and I was very nervous) to go scope out the Stitch 'n Bitch at my local LYS this morning.  I was really put off and landed up doing shopping.  It is all much older than me ladies, and they sit in little groups and only mingle with those little groups.  Not very condusive to new members at all.  Very intimidating.

The pottery place I emailed yesturday came back to me and said there is a heafty waiting list and she has added me to it.  I will wait for that one, but not just sit back and do nothing.

Last night I was telling the Bank Manager about my plan to get out of my box (not funk) and he said well if you don't find something, start something yourself.  That's the plan, I am going to start a 'stitch 'n bitch' and a bookclub.   Step one complete, I have a plan.

On to the knitting part of the post.  Red Butler has been flying this week, one sleeve finished and the other 95% finished.  While I was at the LYS this morning, I got the black satin ribbon to sew down the two fronts of it.  I also splurged and got a simple aline pattern for a skirt and some south african cotton to sew it.  I am so excited about that project.  I have to wash the cotton, tomorrow is going to be a sewing day.  So excited.

The Flower Skirt - that's the one I want to make.

Stunning South African made cotton

So now you have read my post, don't forget to head back to Tami Ami's blog to see more amazing WIP Wednesdays!  See you all on FO Friday.

  1. ooo I love that cotton, it's gorgeous. I think it is a good idea to start your own groups, that way you can make them the way you want them to be, rather than having to fit into an existing set up that doesn't quite fit.

  4. My LYS feels the same way. That's why I went on Ravelry and found a local group that met on their own. I'm still one of the younger members, but nobody there is a clique-ish fuddy-duddy, so I'm quite happy there.

  5. Your projects are great. Good for you for starting your own group. I'm sure if you put a notice up on Ravelry and in your LYS, you will find lots of others like you who will be thrilled to have a group. Good luck!

  7. Aww... I'm so sorry your sit & stitch didn't work out well! I know how that feels!
Maybe you can find another group!

  8. Well done on starting your own group, sure you'll get a lot of people interested who weren't able to join the other group in your LYS.

Loving how your cardi is turning out, I really want to knit one. South African Cotton sounds lovely too...

I think I'm going to do what you suggested, knitting it as a whole strip will definitely be quicker, and it'll look neater I'm sure. Thanks!

(I've added you on Ravelry btw, I'm Charlott3)

  9. Your cardigan looks great!
I found my knitting group on ravelry by searching my location. Maybe you could find one that way. It took a while to find one that I really clicked with.

  11. I've been to a number of stitch'n'bitches - some good and some not so much. Starting your own sounds like just the thing! I've really enjoyed those that meet up at a coffee shop or at a pub ... but what does that say about me?

  12. I'm with the others -- start your own group. I've tried to join groups like that and found the same - because they already have an established dynamic, it was hard for me as a newbie to feel included.

I love your cardigan though and that skirt fabric is adorable!!!! Can't wait to see the F.O.s!!!!!

  15. PS Good for you for trying out your LYS' Stitch n' Bitch. I'm sorry it wasn't a pleasant experience.
I'm a shy introvert, and unless I'm introduced by a friend to a group, break out into a sweat at the prospect of joining a bunch of strangers for a couple of hours of knitting.

  16. Why not give the group a try. You never know until you sit your butt down and give it a go. If not, hope you can get a group going!!

  19. Great progress there! What a shame about the LYS group. I agree that you should start your own. I helped start a local knitting group a couple of years ago and now there's a regular bunch of us who all get on like a house on fire and these lovely ladies have become really good friends - in fact Rachel who commented above me is one of those, although we met earlier through a scrapbooking group (hi Rachel!) xxx

  23. The cardigan looks great! Love the colour!

I think starting your own groups is a fantastic idea! I started my own reading group 5 years ago and its still going and I love it! I would love to start my own knitting group but I just don't have the time! Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Oh the pattern I am using is from Aneeta Patel's book Knitty gritty! It might also be on ravelry, so worth a look!

  24. What a shame about that s&b group - but on a good note, you'll get to start your own new group which will hopefully attract a lot on nice knitters!
