WIP Wednesday - Week 1

Well hello there!  It's WIP Wednesday and Hump Day!
I'm frantically trying to finish Blues before FO Friday and Update Sunday!  I'm convinced that I should have been further with Blues.

I loathe sewing up, really no matter how I sew items up I am in a foul mood until its done.  So I have been thinking about doing sleeves in a round.  I already do my back and fronts in a round and then divide it at the armholes.

BUT

That would mean I couldn't do two at a time, unless I learn the magic loop trick.  So please vote on my poll and also let me know if you have any other short cuts that I haven't thought of to get around sewing!

I DID IT!!  I finished the required amount of cm (37) for the body of the Blues!!!!!

  1. I've only made one garment where the sleeves WEREN'T in the round and it drove me completely bonkers - and it was only a little tiny toddler shrug too! I'd NEVER sew a sleeve up again. Ever.

That's my take on it anyway :)

  3. I hate seaming, but I'm not very good at magic loop - so I'm no good for advice I'm afraid ;) Love the colours, it's looking fab :)

  5. That's a beautiful color yarn! I say Magic Loop! I've done it for socks a hat and sleeves (though not both at once). I'm knitting two socks at once on Magic Loop now, and although it seems to take forever to do a round, when I'm done, I'll be totally DONE!

  6. Another vote for learning magic loop. I haven't done two at a time but magic loop is really easy once you get going.
Love the colours in your Blues!

  8. I learned from a friend how to knit sleeves top down, in the round. She had taken a class from Sarah Peasley who teaches a method of picking up stitches around the armhole and then knitting the sleeve cap with short rows so that the sleeve still fit as well as set in sleeves. I love the method and I think it is worth not being able to do them 2-at-a-time. I know that doesn't tell you exactly how to do buy maybe it is online somewhere?

  9. I hate when I am knitting to a length and keep measuring to find I am nowhere close! Love the colors in that.

  10. Good for finishing the required amount! I have all 5 books now, but I also bought 2 new books this morning...my Hubs and I are both readers, as are my MIL and SIL and we have a tremendous amount of books!...Plus the Hubs has a Nook....Are you in the Nerd Wars too?

  11. I have to admit that after doing some more research on the Magic Loop it looks extremely fiddly and might be even more time consuming. Anyway I will give it a bash! Thanks for all the comments they are read and appreciated!

  13. I don't like stitching things up either, doing a ghan right now and foricing myself to piece together sorta as I go so I don't have to do it all at the end; but haven't done 2 at a time, or the magic loop thing, so can't offer a vote or opinion for you. Good luck, and thanks for the visit.

  14. Oh I HATE seaming also! I'm terrible at it, which is why I try to do everything in the round!

Magic loop is really straight forward once you get your head around it. I think it's one of those things that looks a lot more complicated than it actually is!

  15. Seaming is about the worst part of knitting/crocheting for me. I crochet things together whenever at all possible and even that drives me a little crazy. :(
I think doing the sleeves in the round would be ideal. And hey, an excuse to learn something new, right? ;)
